Which Book Should We Read from Iran?

A starry night appears above the beautiful ruins of a Persian building

We received 4 books suggestions this month & randomly choose 2 as shown here. However, 3 of the choices are included in the vote. Beth C's suggestion which wasn’t chosen was so enticing to Julie that she decided to include it as her suggestion.

Before we get to the vote, I wanted to share another cookbook I recently discovered that I’ve fallen in love with featuring a modern spin on traditional Persian recipes. Not only does the author make Persian food accessible explaining the background/culture, but the vibrant seasonal ingredients are delicious & the dishes are vegetable-forward making them healthier.

Food52 Award Winner—a luscious and contemporary take on the alluring cuisine of Iran featuring 75 recipes for both traditional Persian dishes and modern reinterpretations.

In The New Persian Kitchen, acclaimed chef and Lucid Food blogger Louisa Shafia explores her Iranian heritage by reimagining classic Persian recipes from a fresh, vegetable-focused perspective. These vibrant recipes demystify Persian ingredients like rose petals, dried limes, tamarind, and sumac, while offering surprising preparations for familiar foods such as chicken, beets, carrots, mint, and yogurt for the busy, health-conscious cook. The nearly eighty recipes range from starters to stews to sweets, and employ streamlined kitchen techniques and smart preparation tips.

The New Persian Kitchen makes the exotic and beautiful tradition of seasonal Persian cooking both accessible and inspiring.

”Every once in a while you pick up a cookbook and want to cook everything in it, which was the case with this one.” —The New York Times
