Which Book Should We Read from China?

Thanks to everyone who sent in suggestions this month. We received so many that we needed to do a random draw to see which would be included in the vote. (Click here to see that drawing.) The books not chosen will still be included on our web site next month along with the names of the people who suggested them…& some other books from China as well.

Before we get to the vote, here’s a short poem from one of China’s greatest poets & essayists who was born in 1037 in Meishan, China (now the Sichuan province). He was also an accomplished calligrapher & a public official. He sounds so serious, does he not? And he writes beautiful poetry, but it was the amazing & hilarious title which inspired me to include this poem here:

“Written While Drunk in Lake-view Pavilion on the 27th Day of the Sixth Month”

The inky clouds fly in, but do not hide the hills,
As random drops of white rain leap into the boats.
A sudden wind arrives and sweeps across the earth,
Below I see the lake a mirror of the sky.

Now onto the vote.
