Guess Where We're Adventuring by Book Next

You may recognize this particular country from its snow-capped peaks of rocky, treeless plateaus which seem at odds with the tropical locale. Or you may have noticed that the Hass avocados at your grocery store have recently begun sporting a label stating they're from this area.

Maybe you or your partner have oohed over sparkling emeralds from there or been amazed at this country's soccer prowess. Perhaps you've read of the local legend of a chieftain who would coat himself in gold dust & throw precious jewels into the nearby lake to appease an underwater god.

But craveable food is what I most associate with this Latin American country. While I haven't visited this particular country we're reading next, I have traveled there via some of its cuisine through this enchanting cookbook with hand-drawn & hand-lettered recipes. One of the sweetest cookbooks in my collection, it details a favorite local riff on chimichurri which includes cilantro mimicking the area's lush tropical rainforest & its fame as one of the most biodiverse habitats in the world.

So What Country Are We Reading Next?

A country which is known for two types of “snow”—that white, icy stuff on nearby Andean peaks & that white, powdery stuff people shove up their noses. Yep, you guessed it...Colombia! With this country as one of Mia's literary favorites, she has a duo of books which are polar opposites already picked out so no need to suggest them:

We'll use 2 suggestions from book club members, 2 suggestions from Mia (the book club moderator) & 2 of my suggestions to compile a list of 6 books on which book club members will vote. The most popular book from the list will then be read.

Please note - We're specific in our books, they must:

  • Largely occur in the location specified unless the world described is an alternate reality

  • Be written by an author born there who has spent a good portion of their life there

  • Exist in paperback & ebook available on both Amazon & Kindle at least in the US & hopefully elsewhere
